PEAK Tennis Pro-Am = Fun Community Service
Over the past four years I’ve had the opportunity to work with an impressive group of people who took a “little” idea of creating a tennis pro-am charity event for Watson Children’s Shelter and turned it into Watson’s largest annual fundraiser. The PEAK Tennis Pro-Am has also become one of the most sought-after tennis tournaments for both amateurs in the region and professionals alike. Thirty-two pros from all over the country and local amateurs are matched together in a weekend-long tournament. Amateurs secure their spots in the tournament by placing a winning bid on a professional tennis player during a live auction. This year’s auction raised a record-breaking $53,000 ($18,000 over last year’s event).
The event is not only focused on giving back to the community financially, but gives back by also offering a complimentary tennis clinic for children and a doubles exhibition with hors d’oeuvres and beverages.
This year the PEAK Tennis Pro-Am weekend will kick off with a star-studded exhibition on Friday, October 3 at the PEAK Racquet Club. The exhibition will feature four former ATP touring pros. Top pros include Robert Kendrick, who has been ranked as high as 69 in the world; Luke Jensen, who was the 1993 French Open Doubles Champion; Bobby Reynolds, formerly ranked 63 in the world; and Jesse Witten, who just last year qualified for the U.S. Open in mixed doubles.
The exhibition and weekend tournament is free to the public to watch and there will also be a silent auction to benefit Watson Children’s Shelter.
Besides the facts that I play a little tennis, I seriously love Watson’s, and there are not many opportunities in Montana to watch elite tennis players compete, this tournament is a pretty great thing. Mark your calendar to come out for a good show.
When: October 3 at 6 p.m.
Location: PEAK Racquet Club (4990 Buckhouse Lane, Missoula)
